SWOT ANALYSIS of USING VR in EDUCATION
STRENGTHS Using
VR in education helps students to keep the info in their minds longer. For
example, if a student learning about planets, by allowing him to travel in
space with a VR headset, the lesson will be more fun and memorable for him. I
believe VR helps the course to take place in an interactive way, at the same
time, if you use a VR headset in the lesson, it increases the interest of the
students who are not interested in the subject and also enables them to like
and participate in the lesson. |
WEAKNESSES In my
opinion, if there is a limited number of headsets in the classroom, this can
cause other students to get bored and disconnect from the subject. For instance,
in a class of 15 students, while 3 students experience a CR headset, the rest
may get bored in the lesson as they are just watching them. This causes students
to talk among themselves, so it becomes difficult to control the class and
students lose their interest in the lesson. |
OPPORTUNITIES As an
opportunity to use VR technology, it helps to create an environment where the
students are active in the classroom and speak more. It may also help moving
away from the traditional classroom model which is the teacher-centered
classroom where the students are silent. Plus,
since the students are Gen Z, most of them are interested in the technology.
Offering this opportunity increases the interest for the lesson. |
THREATS In
the conditions of Turkey, public schools are generally very crowded so, it
will be difficult to use it in crowded classrooms in terms of both managing
the class and providing equal conditions for each student. Because it is very
difficult to offer this opportunity equally to 35 students during a 40-minute
course. As
another thread, the environment of the class; setting, the board may not be
suitable for using this technological tool, it may not be up-to-date. |
